Financial Football Launches In Washington

Tackling the problem of financial education among Washington students head-on, State Treasurer James McIntire, Seattle Seahawks’ Quarterback Tarvaris Jackson, Jump$tart Washington, and Visa Inc. today announced a statewide effort to raise awareness of the importance of financial education in schools.

Financial Football is a free educational video game and classroom curriculum developed by Visa Inc. The game is an innovative tool used to help improve the money management skills of high school and middle school students.

To kick off the campaign, Treasurer McIntire, with help from Seahawks’ Tarvaris Jackson, played Financial Football with Rainier Beach High School students.

At the event, McIntire shared the importance of making good financial decisions when purchasing a first car or deciding on what college to attend. Jackson shared his personal experiences on the importance of money management with students.

Free Game and Classroom Curriculum
This free game is accompanied by a classroom curriculum and has been distributed by the Washington State Treasurer’s office to public middle and high school in Washington State. The centerpiece of Visa’s nationwide educational initiative in partnership with the NFL, NFL players and State Treasurers, Financial Football helps students and adults tackle their financial futures.

Available online, at http://www.washington.financialfootball.com/, Financial Football puts students’ fiscal knowledge to the test in an online simulation game by combining the structure and rules of NFL football with financial education questions of varying difficulty.
