A packed house of nearly 300 people attended the first "Taking Charge in Tough Times" event at the Three Rivers Convention Center in Kennewick. The event was the first in a statewide series of public forums focused on protecting consumers amid today's turbulent economy.
Attendees heard from a wide variety of experts including the attorney general’s office, AARP, Microsoft, the FINRA Investor Education Foundation, the Department of Financial Institutions, KCTS 9, the Federal Trade Commission, the Washington State Crime Prevention Association and the Washington State Utilities and Transportation Commission.
A number of timely topics were covered, including outsmarting investment fraud, staying safer online, guarding your identity, protecting your retirement savings, cutting costs and saving money.
Additional events are planned for April 22 in Bellevue (registration full), May 6 in Vancouver, and June 3 in Spokane.
The Bellevue event is full. However, room still exists for the Vancouver and Spokane events.
The events are free and lunch is included, but pre-registration is required.
